This is a centre of knowledge Learning, leisure and life

This once sleepy village has grown into one of the nation's jewels, with an inspirational and intellectual heritage, and a buzzing contemporary atmosphere.

The city's educational origins began when a group of thirteenth century monks moved here from Oxford seeking a more tranquil place to study. Today Cambridge, with its famous colleges is regarded as one of the world's leading Universities, housing more than 17,000 students, with a long list of alumni ranging from icons such as Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and William Wordsworth, to royalty including King Edward VII, George VI and The Prince of Wales. Modern celebrities Sir Ian McKellan, John Cleese and Stephen Fry have also been past students.

As a centre of knowledge and learning, it continues to excel. Early experiments in nuclear physics were carried out here at the start of the twentieth century while world famous physicist Stephen Hawking penned 'A Brief History of Time' here just a couple of decades ago, and still works in the city.

The University is part of the city's DNA and it continues to provide great influence in education, business and cultural perspectives to this day. It is this unrivalled history, powerful evolution and dynamic future that makes Cambridge such a successful city.
